Speed dating... finding the perfect match for Barnet businesses09.08.2013
The world of work is changing. There are lots of skilled people in Barnet available for flexible work – and lots of businesses who could benefit from them. That’s what fifty local people and businesses discovered at an interactive event held in Hendon Jobcentre Plus last week.
They explored what flexible working means, and how it benefits businesses and individuals.
The employers present explored how a flexible resourcing strategy can provide access to a wide variety of skilled and experienced people, available whenever needed for as long as needed. This cost-effective approach enables businesses to thrive on even a very limited human resources budget.
The event was hosted by Barnet-based social enterprise, Trading Times. Director Jonathan Collie says, “Trading Times matches local businesses with skilled local people – particularly the over 50’s and family carers. People with many years experience and often at the peak of their powers. On the one hand, there are businesses who really need extra help from time to time, and on the other, we have people with skills and time to offer. We put them together. It’s just common sense.”
As well as sharing ideas on flexible working, the event included a ‘speed dating’ session, where candidates pitched their capabilities to potential employers in just 30 seconds. This was so successful that Trading Times will now be running larger scale employer/candidate speed-dating events on a quarterly basis.
